Six-Cylinder 2021 Porsche 718 Boxsters and Caymans Add PDK Automatic Option

Porsche's entry-level sports cars also get more standard equipment.

Value is relative. For instance, if you view cost as the decider of value, then the 2021 Porsche 718 Cayman and Boxster sports cars' starting sums of $61,250 and $63,350 make them worse deals relative to the two models' $2,400-cheaper, 2020-model-year counterparts. However, if you're the sort of person who views features as the nominator of value, then the 2021 Porsche 718 models are genuine bargains compared to the 2020s.

Indeed, the newly standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, auto-dimming mirrors, rain-sensing wipers, Apple CarPlay compatibility, and swiveling bi-xenon headlights. Add those items to a 2020 Cayman or Boxster and you're looking at an additional $3,330 in options. In other words, the 2021 Cayman and Boxster are $930 cheaper than comparably equipped 2020 models.

It's not just the entry-level Cayman and Boxster that benefit from these additions, either, as the racier T, S, and GTS 4.0 models all add the aforementioned items to their respective standard features list. The six-cylinder GTS actually does one better, as it trades the swiveling bi-xenon headlights of lesser 718 models for pricier swiveling bi-xenon units with black housings.

Porsche is doing more than simply increasing the inherent value of its 718 Cayman and Boxster coupe and convertible, it's also improving the models' performance. Well, at least six-cylinder GT4, Spyder, and GTS 4.0 models, all of which now offer Porsche's quick-shifting seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission as an option. Unlike the GTS 4.0, which is new to the 718 model line for 2021, the 2020 Cayman GT4 and Boxster Spyder are currently sold exclusively with six-speed manual gearboxes. While the row-it-yourself transmission is obviously the far more involving and rewarding setup, it admittedly lacks the speed and precision of Porsche's self-shifting unit—an undeniable benefit to those who seriously track or compete in their Cayman or Boxster.

Although most 2021 718 models ought to reach dealer lots before the end of the year, six-cylinder GT4, Spyder, and GTS 4.0 trims equipped with the seven-speed dual-clutch transmission will not arrive until the early part of next year. That may disappoint potential buyers of these flat-six-powered models who value their time above all else, but good things often come to those who wait. ผลบอล7mคะแนน
