EVANS EAGER TO CAPITALISE ON STRONG SEASON START

Rally Sweden winner Elfyn Evans is looking to build on his positive start to his first FIA World Rally Championship season driving something other than a Ford Fiesta.

After 86 WRC rounds behind the Blue Oval, the Welshman signed to drive for Toyota Gazoo Racing this season. He was an immediate hit, scoring a podium after leading Rallye Monte-Carlo, followed by a win at round two which moved him to the top of the drivers’ standings.

Evans joined Toyota team-mates Sébastien Ogier and Kalle Rovanperä in Finland to test earlier this month and admitted that fast gravel running in the Yaris was just what he needed to get him in the mood for the season’s restart.

Talking about his approach to coming rallies, Evans said: “We just need to keep doing what we’re doing with the same attitude we came into the year. We’ve got a bit more experience of the car and there are a few areas we know we can still work on. I’m looking forward what may come in the second half of the year.”

Fourth at Rally Guanajuato México dropped Evans to second behind Ogier – eight points down on the series leader. Both are ready for a big fight to the end of the season.

Evans added: “Who knows what’ll happen at this stage? It’s all a bit up in the air and we know everybody will be just as hungry to fight for that title.

“Whatever the outcome [in terms of the calendar] and whatever rallies we do, we’ve got to go with utmost effort and do our best if we do want a shot [at the title]. It’s a case of going rally-by-rally for me again,” he added. ผลบอล7mย้อนหลัง
